New York Life's learning and development team partners with Taproot Foundation to deliver a unique model for skills development for New York Life employees. Through this partnership, Taproot brings nonprofits and other community service organizations aligned to the mission of New York Life, such as those involved with childhood bereavement or education, together with New York Life employees with unique capabilities in areas such as technology, data science or finance. During an extended volunteer project, New York Life teams use their expertise to advance the mission of the non-profit while further developing their own skills.
Throughout this volunteer program, learners are coached by more senior leaders to develop their skills in their area of expertise, but also in problem solving, leadership and consulting skills, in a business context different from their day-to-day job.
This presentation will describe skilled volunteerism as a model for professional development and review specific cases from New York Life's experience in partnership with Taproot.
